Why did you join PECO MORE?
I joined PECO MORE because I wanted to play a part in creating a culture that doesn’t shy away from the tough questions and issues around race, inequality, and exclusion etc. We’ve finally gotten to a place where diversity is being recognized as a keystone for things such as innovation, reduced employee turnover, and increased profits. So, what better time to educate one another, listen, and take action for the overall good.

What does PECO MORE mean to you? To me, PECO MORE means change. A change in perspective in how we see diversity and how we define inclusion. PECO MORE is a starting line that will lead to a better tomorrow, not only for us, but those that will come after.

Why did you join PECO MORE?
PECO MORE is an opportunity for us to do better in terms of diversity and inclusion, and I wanted to be part of the change. I grew up in eastern Kentucky, in a town that was not racially or ethnically diverse. But I was able to learn much about the importance of inclusion by getting to know people with disabilities – from my experience volunteering with the Special Olympics, my aunt who is severely mentally handicapped, and through my mom, a multiple disabilities teacher. I’ve always wanted to be like my mom. I saw her work very hard to integrate her students into other classes and activities of all students in her school. I saw the difference it made, not only for her students but for the other students and teachers. It was a very real example of how important diversity is.

What does PECO MORE mean to you?
PECO MORE means MORE to me. That is more perspectives, more considerations, more respect, more understanding, more sharing, and MORE. I believe it is a cause that brings all of us together at PECO. While mutually exclusive, collectively exhaustive means different things in the business world, it applies perfectly to every one of us under the PECO umbrella.

Why did you join PECO MORE?
I joined PECO MORE to be an advocate for diversity within PECO and to promote fostering an inclusive environment within our company. I joined to drive honest conversation around difficult issues while providing space for employees to learn and grow without fear of judgment. And I joined to contribute educational and engaging content to encourage PECO involvement across all levels of our organization.

What does PECO MORE mean to you?
PECO MORE is an avenue for me to affect positive change in my surroundings. It affords me an opportunity to be an ally to underserved and unrepresented demographics by leveraging my influence to raise their voices to tell their stories. Additionally, PECO MORE as an institution shows that our company recognizes the historical inequities for many and is committed to correcting them. I’m proud to be a part of PECO MORE and look forward to seeing the growth it cultivates on both a personal-associate and company-wide basis.

Why did you join PECO More?
I joined PECO MORE at its inception in 2019 because I wanted to be a part of an associate led group that offered DE&I initiatives as part of the PECO Culture that had been promoted since I was hired back in 2004. I joined because I believe in the importance of creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace because it can foster creativity, fresh perspectives, and understanding. By implementing DE&I, people of different races, abilities, ages, genders, religion, sexual orientation, and other diverse backgrounds can be made more comfortable in the workplace. I am passionate about closing the gap in representation and opportunities for underrepresented groups.

What does PECO More means to you?
Studies have found that when team members feel like they belong and are valued for who they are, they are more likely to be productive and engaged in their work. Diverse and inclusive workplaces can foster community and collaboration. Employees can feel comfortable working together towards common goals. A DEI-Focused business has greater reach with different perspectives, who have different backgrounds, relate to more varied groups of people. As a result, they can cultivate relationships with new sets of clients, colleagues, mentors, and partners.
